Now this story is not supposed to make sense or maintain its sentence structure. It is how I felt and to this day I can still tell it well. We met during the summer of 1999 at Ruby's Pier while vacationing in San Francisco, California. I remember seeing her at the same airport and thinking of how beautiful she was when I first laid eyes on her. I didn't act on my feelings since she was just another person, like myself, traveling away from New Canaan, Connecticut. Anyway, my sister had picked me up from the airport that day and later that night we went out on the town for some drinks and a comedy show. We had a blast and I mentioned how I felt towards this amazing woman I saw at the airport who was on the same plane as I was. My sister is big on the 'destiny and fate thing' so she automatically said we were going to meet someday soon. The next day we took my nieces and nephews to Ruby Pier. We had a fun time, playing the games, eating cotton candy, and watching the corn-dog eating contest. There she was. Golden curly hair flowing with the salty sea breezes, light blue and white polka dot dress. My sister instantly knew and she pushed me in her direction. I didn't know what to say so I went up to her and just said "Hi!" Lauren turned to me and gave me a soft luminescent smile. She was so warm and welcoming. She's sweet and has this kind nature, I could already feel it. She said hi back and started walking away. Like a nervous idiot I blurted out, "Do you want to go out on a date?" Now, what kind of grown man asks a grown woman that before he even knows her name? "Uh, well, don't you want to know my name first?" "Yeah, that would be a good start huh?" I humorously replied. She giggled at my comment and said, "My name is Lauren, and you are...?" "O I'm Wyley, it's nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you!" she said smiling. After that we got ice cream and walked around the pier observing the diversity in people. I found out she was staying down here by herself and was on a "me-vacation" (that's exactly what she called it). She thought I was a local and she said "I only have two weeks down here so we can't get attached or anything. No falling in love, you know!" Then I told her I saw her at the airport and I knew she was from New Canaan. She smiled sweetly and I still remember the glow of the illuminating city lights in the background, the soft cool breeze, and her eyes, penetrating blues and crystalline greens. She leaned in, and I kissed her. That was the beautiful beginning!
